Forgive me for bringing up a somewhat sensitive issue, but…
One afternoon, an older client called with an unusual request –
he wanted to pre-record his own funeral eulogy!
He explained that he’d attended too many funerals conducted by people unfamilar with the departed, and whose remarks were glib, shallow and insincere. “Tacky” was the word he used, and he found these events somewhat offensive.
He’d always believed that when you want something done right you should do it yourself – so he scheduled a recording session.
He arrived completely prepared with two copies of his comments – one copy for me to follow along with – and recorded music to close the service.
Comfortable at the microphone, he was able to review his life in his own voice and in his own way. When the editing was completed he listened to the playback, laughed and said, “Yup. That’s it!”
Now, if you’re just out of college this idea is probably not for you. You’re too young to be looking that far ahead. To your parents, grand-parents and other senior relatives, however, this might seem a valid idea.
As a nation of people in a state of constant relocation, many of us complete our lives far from where we began. When that final day arrives, it’s no wonder that no one knows what to say about us.
No one knows you better than you do, so why not prerecord your own eulogy?
- No one will wonder who you were – you’ll tell them!
- The information will be correct (barring the occasional small fib!)
- Feel free to be amusing – rather than lamenting your departure, your service can be a celebration of your life!
Rates begin at $195
(Full color cover for your recorded disk included)
